SHE is only two years old – but York toddler Erin Barry already walks for miles when her family goes out for a Sunday afternoon hike in the Yorkshire countryside.

Now she has been named as Child Of The Year because of her Fit For Life attitude.

The York tot has won a holiday in France for her family in the Fit For Life Child of the Year Award, run by family life magazine Right Start in association with Keycamp Holidays.

Organisers said she was awarded the prize for her enthusiastic, active and energetic approach to life.

Proud mum Natalie, from Heworth, entered Erin for the award, which celebrates children who are leading the way with their healthy lifestyles.

She said: “Erin is already an outdoor adventure girl. From the moment she gets up in the morning she is on the move and wanting to go outside. She ignores the television and heads straight for the door.

“On Sundays we all go for a walk in the Yorkshire countryside. Erin can walk a few miles on her own and she travels on her dad’s back for the rest of the adventure.”

Erin, along with her mum and dad, will be enjoying a ten-night stay in France with Keycamp.

Natalie said: “We’re all delighted about the holiday and can’t wait to get exploring the outdoors in France.”

Lynette Lowthian, editor of Right Start, said: “At just two, Erin is such a tiny girl yet she is so determined to get involved and enjoy family activities to the full. It’s great to hear of such a young child doing the sort of fit and active pursuits that Erin enjoys daily.”

Dave McKenna, from Keycamp, said the group sponsored the awards because its holidays had fun, freedom and family at their core. “For such a little girl, Erin really is an example to us all to get more active,” he said.
