WE WOULD like to extend our thanks to the North Yorkshire Police for their praise of the conduct of the protesters on Tuesday published on their website.
Furthermore, we would like to return the compliment at the sensitive and peaceful policing policy at the protest.
The march was lightly policed by a combination of police and community support officers and passed without incident.
Sensitive and understanding policing such as we witnessed on Tuesday is vital for protests to proceed in a peaceful and democratic manner.
About 500 university, college and school students and members of the general public marched through York in protest of the Government’s plans for education funding.
We would also like to add our thanks to those of the police towards the general public for their understanding and patience.
