AS A local resident living in the Westfield Ward, I am amazed by the antics of some Labour supporters from other parts of the city.

First we have to endure Mr Williams claiming through your newspaper that local people don’t want more housing to be built on the former White Rose site. In reality, I don’t know anyone in the area who opposes the building of the proposed six bungalows.

Then Mr Burton, of Holgate Road (Letters, November 29), lecturing us about prudence and dealing fairly with the growing number of elderly people.

He might have more credibility if the last Government had not plunged the country into an economic crisis or if they had ensured that the extra £1million a year in council support grant they calculated York was owed had reached the city.
