THE Christmas lights in Selby will be switched on by Councillor Melanie Davis and Digit Al, the face of the digital switch-over.

The event will take place in Selby Market Place on Saturday, December 4, from 4pm, and will also mark the first Christmas market in the town.

The organisers of the event, Selby Town Council, took over running the market in September and included a festive market to coincide with the switch on.

Coun Steve Shaw-Wright said: “Selby council always puts on a good show of Christmas lights, we do this to encourage the festive sprit in Selby, with the addition of the Christmas market we hope to see more people coming in to town and spending some time and money in the local shops.

Entertainment will be provided by Barlby Foot Tappers and Minster FM, while information about the digital switch-over will be available onsite too.
