A CHOCOLATE retailer has won approval to carry out a revamp at its city centre store in York.
Planners at City of York Council have given Thorntons permission to fit a new shopfront and signs at its branch in Parliament Street, which is based in a Grade II-listed building.
The company says the work will retain most of the site’s original features and also include a ramp to assist wheelchair users.
“Upgrading the existing shopfront and signage is important to the brand of Thorntons and its presence on Parliament Street,” said the firm’s planning agents Fisch Design Ltd in a planning and access statement submitted as part of the application.
“A new shopfront would give this unit a much-needed new lease of life,” the report stated.
