I COMMEND the efforts by the council to regulate parking in Dringhouses, but would query the restrictions for Cherry Lane.
The main community buildings for Dringhouses are all clustered near Cherry Lane: pubs, library, local church. The church halls are in constant use by the entire community, then there are services, funerals and weddings. Every evening scores of people converge on that area, with its limited parking facilities. Parking in Cherry Lane is essential and presents no traffic hazards.
In addition to community activities, there is traffic to and from Dringhouses Primary School. Parking near the school is scarce and again Cherry Lane comes into its own.
Walking is not always possible – especially for the very old and very young. The proposed restrictions in Cherry Lane will cause more problems than they will solve.
I hope your readers will express their concerns – the deadline for objecting falls on Friday.
John Young, York.
