A PETITION calling for urgent action to stop motorists parking on the pavement in University Road, York, has been launched.
Residents said the parked vehicles were putting pedestrians in danger.
Terence Fisher, 73, of Fulford, said he saw a young woman with a pushchair forced into the road because a car was blocking the footpath.
He said: “She stepped out into the road because she couldn’t get past on the pavement and she very nearly got wiped out. It’s not right, pedestrians should be able to walk on footpaths in safety.”
York’s Labour group has launched a petition, which can be signed online at yorklabour.org.uk, urging the council to put in double yellow lines.
A spokeswoman for City of York Council said it was looking at introducing short sections of double yellow lines on one side of the road early next year.
