WE ALL know about the great work the Royal British Legion does in reminding us of the sacrifices made by those who have fought on our behalf.

The work of the Royal British Legion's women's section is less well known, but no less vital.

For 85 years, selfless women like 90-year-old Florence Bull have been working to improve the lives of ex-servicewomen and their dependants.

Their efforts were remembered yesterday with a series of events in York, including a service at York Minster.

On behalf of our readers, we thank them all.
