YORK’S new youth council has held its first meeting, in the council chamber of the city’s Guildhall.

It was attended by 30 people aged 11 to 18 from across the city, who had been nominated as representatives from schools, colleges and young people’s groups.

Sue Galloway, the Lord Mayor of York, also attended the meeting and presented the young people with certificates. Joe Armer, York’s member of the UK Youth Parliament said: “In it’s first year, the Youth Council managed to run the first Festival Of Youth, campaigned and fundraised for a city centre venue for young people, produced a resource pack for political education lessons in schools and let young people speak to decision-makers about a whole lot of issues that they cared about.”
