A Selby firm has beaten off national competition to provide security at the town’s new hospital and council offices.

Mayfair Security, which is known in Selby for operating the town’s CCTV system, won the tender to provide a “fully integrated security solution”.

This means the company will provide internal and external CCTV which will be monitored from the company’s base in Vivars Way.

It will also provide door access technology and a security system for both sites.

The news means that there will be three new jobs created for local people.

Neil Addinall, managing director at Mayfair Security, said: “It’s great news that we have been selected as a working partner with BAM Construction, and we look forward to providing them with a state-of-the-art security solution at the hospital.

“As a Selby-based security company employing 80-plus local people, we are very proud to beat of stiff competition from national security companies and keep the work local to Selby.

“Mayfair Security has just completed the security solutions at the University of York new campus east project, and a full security upgrade at the Yorkshire Museum and art gallery.

“It fills us with immense pride to work on some of the most prestigious projects in Yorkshire.”

Work on the hospital and civic centre is currently running a few weeks ahead of schedule and is on budget.

It will be handed over at the end of May next year which will be followed by the demolition of the existing hospital. The news comes as Jason Pink, the project manager of BAM Construction’s team at Selby Civic Centre and hospital, was shortlisted for the Chartered Institute of Buildings Construction Manager of the Year Awards for his work at a £23 million college in Keighley.

Mr Pink will find out this evening at an awards ceremony in London whether he has won the accolade.
