ARCHBISHOP Holgate School pupil Jack Leaning has received another Yorkshire call-up after smashing his first-ever century.

All-rounder Jack struck 19 fours before retiring on 116 during North Yorkshire's 125-run defeat of Durham.

He also claimed one wicket for 12 runs in three overs and the Heworth player's efforts have been recognised by the Yorkshire schools' selectors for a second successive year.

Jack, who is the son of former York City goalkeeper Andy Leaning, will play representative matches for the county's Under-12 team next week against Durham, Heavy Woollen and Lancashire.

He will also attend a cricket festival at Ampleforth College where the opposition will be provided by London, Northumberland and Scotland, followed by further matches against Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire.

Jack's century for North Yorkshire came in 28 overs, having come into bat at number four.

A week earlier, he had claimed his first 50 when he hit an unbeaten 67 at Barnard Castle and his all-round ability is demonstrated by the five wickets he claimed for 22 runs in six overs against Bradford.

Jack's Heworth U13s' team-mate Andrew Simpson also enjoyed his maiden 50, making 62 in the Durham match while Hemingbrough's Tom Collins has represented North Yorkshire as well.

Not satisfied with humbling players from his own age group, Jack has taken the wickets of several adult opponents for Heworth Seconds this season and also turns out for the U15 team.
