Those in the know either know very little or are getting desperate. While we wait for the second coming of Kasabian, the Kaiser Chiefs and The Killers, The Automatic have been hailed as the next generation of new heroes.

Hailing from Cowbridge, Wales, they possess plenty of spark to stand them alongside such refined company.

Singles Raoul and Monster, hybrids of pop, funk and punk with measures of electro and techno thrown in, are sure-fire festival anthems, and the screeching backing vocals of keyboard player Alex Pennie give them a certain something all of their own.

But in reality, two decent songs and some background shrieking does not a great group make. The rest sounds like skateboarder rock, penned by teenagers who've necked one too many ciders. More Green Day than Kaisers, are they the saviours of indie rock? No.
