WEST Park Bowls Club suffered their first defeat of the season losing 69-85 to Nestl Rowntree on the Copmanthorpe green in the semi finals of the Freedom and Fellowship Cup.

Nestl's rink of John Henderson, Colin Waite, Frank Williams and skip Brian Arundale caused the upset with a brilliant 33-8 win.

Dunnington A' beat Scarcroft in the other semi-final and will meet Nestl in the final on Friday at the Bert Keech club.

Haxby Road and Holgate came through the Williamson Cup semi-finals with comfortable wins over Osbaldwick and Railway Amateurs.

The following local bowlers have qualified to represent Yorkshire in the national finals.

Men (at Worthing between August 20 and September 2): Eddie Howcroft (Holgate) singles, John Stroughair, Ray Clark, Jamie Birkley, Roy Pinder (Haxby Road) fours.

Ladies (at Lemington Spa from August 7 to August 19): Gill Clark (Acomb) singles, Dot Kennelly, Carol Instone (Dunnington) pairs, Pat & Maureen Walker, Linda Parker (Clarence Gardens) triples and Michelle Mooring sub for Joyce Chelin, Maralyn Andrews, Anita Haw, Betty Richardson (Bert Keech) fours.

Entries for the Ron Craven and Alan Johnson Memorial Open Pairs Competition will be welcomed by John Stroughair tel 870766.

Entrants mutually agree dates within a given period with the games played on Clarence Gardens and the entrance fee of £4 a pair covers green fees.
