A YORK confectionary giant is getting festive by producing a special Christmas version of one of its most famous treats.

But the new KitKat Claus will not be made in the city, with the Bulgarian capital Sofia being chosen as the home of the snack.

It features a seasonal Santa design on the packaging and is the latest step in the company’s Fairtrade drive, with its launch being backed up through a £500,000 media campaign.

A spokesman for Nestlé said: “This product launch is another step on our journey towards introducing Fairtrade certification across the whole KitKat range.

“There is currently insufficient supply of quality Fairtrade-certified Ivorian cocoa to certify the whole brand and we will continue to work with Faitrade to build relationships to increase the supply.”
