I WISH to respond to the story about full pints (Head Ache, July 15).
For years, I have taken my pint for a top-up. It is something close to my heart. Nobody seems to talk about beer costing between £1.75-£2.25. Why shouldn't we expect a full pint? Although Sam Smiths is reasonably priced.
As for the head, beer should be allowed settle. I wait several minutes before drinking. I think five per cent head is too much. What about large glasses? Even then there would be problems!
Oh dear.

ON my visits to York I have found a simple way to ensure a full pint of beer I just ask the barmaid to remove that silly little "sparkler".
This relatively recent and quite unnecessary device not only squeezes the life out of the beer but also ensures short measure. Pubs could, of course, use oversized, measured glasses.
