THE ninth event in the Clifton CC evening time trial series saw Nigel Goscinski (Obri Coaching) take first place with a time of 23 minutes 45 seconds over the flat, ten mile course.

Clifton's Charlie Evans was second with 24.02, and Colin Hawksby (Triangle RT) third with 24.17.

Matt Shipley was fastest juvenile with a time of 26.32, giving him ninth place overall, and Robyn Oldham (Clifton) was fastest woman with 28.50, competing in her first cycle event of the year.

There are just three events left to go, next week sees a 13 mile rolling course between Sheriff Hutton, Brandsby and Stillington.

Evans also had an excellent result in the latest round of the mountain bike National Points Series, coming seventh overall in the Expert Class.

The event was held in the grounds of Drumlanrig Castle, near Dumfries, on a hilly, highly technical six-mile circuit that offered serious challenges for all the competitors.

Evans was in contention for a top five spot, until an error on lap three saw him go over the handlebars, losing vital places.

Paul Musgrave took ninth place in the TLI Drummond Trophy in Northumberland and first in the 35-40 age category. He also finished sixth in the Wakefield evening road race at New Sharlston.
