A FISH and chip shop in Selby is hoping to batter the competition and be named Britain’s favourite family chippy.

Mister C’s, in Micklegate, is in the final three in the Ben Shaw and Holland’s Pies competition to find Britain’s Favourite Family Chippy.

The pride of Selby and indeed Yorkshire is now at stake as Mister C’s faces rivals from Birmingham and the old enemy Lancashire.

Owners and staff at Mister C’s are now appealing for the public to vote for them and help them take the crown.

Denise Corbally, who runs the business with husband Mark, son Danny and his partner, Amy, said their other son, Michael, would also be joining the restaurant and take-away in May, in addition to the 16 staff members they also employ.

Denise said: “We’ve been representing Selby for the last 30 years and we are very, very proud of our family. All our hard work is a foundation for the next generation. We all work so well together and it’s not just nine to five, we spend a lot of time together. It just means so much to us as a family.”

In a statement on the competition website, Mark said the family was continually striving to improve the service offered to customers.

He said: “We are so proud of our products that we put our faces on our packaging so everybody knows who we are. We are constantly developing our business and believe in our mission statement of Forever Better, and will strive to adhere to it.

“We listen to our customers and try to meet their needs. A customer recently mentioned they would have liked a glass of wine with their meal; we now have a licence.”

Anyone wanting to vote should visit www.favouritefamilychippy.co.uk. The winner will be announced on October 8.
