IT IS good to know of plans to improve road safety near York’s schools, with more 20mph limits.
However, it is ironic that along Heslington Road, motorists have to drive at 20mph at all times past St Lawrence’s Primary School for the safety of the children, whereas at school opening and closing times there are cars parked along the yellow lines, on the zigzags outside the gates and the cycle lane is blocked for much of its length.
These are presumably the cars of the parents for whose children’s safety other road traffic has to slow down. Doubly ironic that a child from this school won a road safety competition on the very issue of this dangerous and illegal parking.
