Poppleton have all but wrapped up the Tyke Petroleum Men’s Tennis League title with a 70-38 demolition of 2009 champions Dunnington.
John and Alex Moore romped with 29 games at Dunnington, whose captain Paul Birch was nursing an injury. Although second-placed Fulford can equal them on points, the huge 132 ‘games won’ difference means Poppleton are unlikely to be overhauled.
It is still anyone’s trophy in division two, where Pocklington went top with an 81-27 win at Strensall. The relegated home side effectively defeated themselves with all three pairs retiring injured and conceding an alarming 48 games.
Appleton Roebuck snatched back top spot in division three after a huge win at Rufforth, where the home team’s first pair conceded the final rubber.
Roebuck’s Tom Shouksmith and Paul Dadvar scored 22 in the two rubbers they played.
