Pupils at Clifton Green Primary School in York gave their head teacher a good send-off.

Sheila Audsley has retired after 37 years teaching in the city.

In 1973, while completing her training at St John’s College, she was accepted for the “pool” of new teachers in York. She was allocated a post at Haxby Road School, where she was a class teacher.

She remained there until she was appointed as deputy head teacher at Kingsway Junior School in 1986. In 1991 she was appointed head teacher of Skelton County Primary School, where she worked for nine years. In 2000 she returned as acting head teacher at Kingsway Junior School and she was appointed as head teacher shortly afterwards of Clifton Green Primary School – the result of the merger between Kingsway Junior and Shipton Street Infant School. Meanwhile, Jonathan Hodge has retired as head teacher of Woodthorpe Community Primary School, York. He joined the school as head teacher in 2001, after being a head teacher at Headlands Primary School, Haxby, and a primary in Essex.
