More top tagging from Wigginton Primary School has landed them another trophy this time for the girls.

The all-girls squad conquered Alne Primary School 8-0 on the Huntington Stadium pitch as the curtain-raiser to the York City Knights home clash with Doncaster Lakers to top off a high quality York City Knights Girls Primary Tag Festival season.

Wigginton went through the series unbeaten after topping group C' of heat two with 4-0 wins over Copmanthorpe and Osbaldwick and drawing 0-0 with Sand Hutton.

They also managed to not concede a single try to drum home Wigginton's reputation in the sport after last year's boys' team won the Marston Moor Cup at the York 9s.

In all, a total of 50 games were played and 78 tries scored by the 20 schools involved.

Also through to the finals day were heat one winners Westfields, the two other group winners from heat two Huntington and St Aelred's, and the three runners up St George's, Alne and Copmanthorpe.

Appleton Roebuck finished second in heat one with a won three, drawn one and lost one record but could not make the finals day due to off-field commitments.

Several of the third-placed teams were called but none could make the finals day at short notice and Robert Wilkinson, who missed the group stages because of a residential school trip, were gifted a wild card entry after beating qualifiers Alne in a friendly.
