A DANGEROUS driver who left three people with life-changing injuries has been sent to jail.

Leon Patterson, of Siding Lane, Barlby, Selby, was convicted of dangerous driving following the crash in Main Street, Riccall, which left six people injured.

Patterson was given an 18-month prison sentence and a three-year driving ban when he appeared at York Crown Court.

The court heard previously how Patterson, driving a black Subaru Impreza WRX carrying four passengers, had come round a bend and crashed into a red BMW driven by a young woman from the local area.

A police spokesman said the collision last May resulted in three passengers in the Subaru being taken to hospital.

One male passenger’s pelvis was shattered and another man sustained a severe brain injury. Both are in their twenties. A third passenger received severe internal injuries. A fourth passenger was treated at the roadside.

The woman driving the BMW, who was in her mid-20s, received leg injuries that left her unemployed.

Patterson, 25, himself spent three months in hospital.

Traffic Sergeant Julian Pearson said: “Throughout the investigation, Mr Patterson has denied that his dangerous driving caused the collision and has shown no remorse towards his passengers. Officers across North Yorkshire and the city of York are committed in reducing collisions like this, especially among young male drivers.

“I am extremely pleased with the verdict and hope the sentence sends a stark warning to young drivers that we will not tolerate dangerous driving on the roads in our county and we will pursue offenders through the courts.”
