TADCASTER Grammar School will be holding its golden jubilee gala day on July 10.

The school had hoped the event would be attended by Dickie Bird, but the former Test cricket umpire will be unable to attend due to medical reasons. Instead, Les Smith, who is the chairman of the trustees of The Dickie Bird Foundation, will be representing the organisation.

“Naturally, we are disappointed that Dickie Bird is unable to join us for our special gala celebrations,” said Tracey Ferguson, organiser and chair of the Parents’ Association.

“However, we are grateful to Les Smith and The Dickie Bird Foundation for agreeing to come and represent Mr Bird on the day.”

The gala will take place from 11am to 4pm in the grounds of the school, and admission is free. For more details, phone the school on 01937 833466.
