Life for mankind seems to be a vicious circle, don’t it? I see rare black grouse are breeding three times better in fields grazed by cattle than areas which have only sheep on them (The Press, June 24, Black grouse boost).
A study by the Game and Wildlife Conservation Trust showed fields grazed by cattle had twice as many sawfly larvae – a favourite food of the newly-hatched black grouse chicks.
I know the Glorious Twelth is in August – but I say, when do we start shooting those pesky sawflies? The Wildlife Conservation Trust may know.
