PLANS to build affordable housing on the site of an old dairy in York look set to be turned down when they go before a council planning committee next week.
Developer Yorkshire Housing Ltd has submitted plans to build eight semi-detached houses and nine apartments on the site of the Co-operative dairy, in Haxby Road, behind Haxby Road Primary School.
The plans would see the current warehouse demolished to make way for the two and three-storey properties to be built in its place.
Ten of the properties were set to be allocated to rent and seven would be available for discounted sale.
But the report said the planned development “would appear crammed into the site”.
It added that the “sense of overdevelopment would be visible from outside the site”.
Planning officers also received 40 letters from nearby residents who objected to the proposed plans.
They raised concerns over increased traffic and loss of privacy.
The plans will be considered by City of York Council on Thursday, July 7.
