A NEW campaign has been launched to use the World Cup to curb underage drinking in North Yorkshire.
The Richmondshire and Hambleton Community Safety Partnerships are working with trading standards, North Yorkshire Police, pub licensees, retailers and the public on the Alcohol Respect Campaign to show underage drinkers the red card.
A new bottle-shaped leaflet has been produced to warn adults that buying alcohol for underage drinkers is a criminal offence, and can contribute to anti-social behaviour.
Kate Davies, Richmondshire Community Safety Officer, said: “While many of our retailers are very responsible and have been working hard to prevent sales to underage drinkers, we need their help to reinforce the message to those who still think it is okay to buy alcohol and pass on to our youngsters.”
