GLOBE-TROTTING world number 74 Simon Dyson treks back to his roots tomorrow in a special exhibition outing.

The York-born star, who first learned how to play the game at Malton & Norton Golf Club, returns to the North Yorkshire course fresh from appearing in the US Open in California to honour a commitment he made back in the winter.

The Welham Park-based club is this year celebrating its centenmary.

One of the highlights of the celebrations is the exhibition match which pits four-time European Tour title winner Dyson alongside club champion Elliott Burdett against Malton & Norton GC head pro Michael Brooks and his assistant Fraser Kelley.

The quartet will tee off at 11am tomorrow and a huge crowd is expected to welcome back the club’s most successful product.

At the outset of the current year, the 32-year-old Dyson – by virtue of a scintillating triumph in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship at St Andrews – had surged into the world’s leading 50 players.

That achievement ensured his place in all four Majors this season and he has featured in two of those – last week’s US Open at Pebble Beach and the first Major of 2010, the Masters at Augusta.

His appearance at the feted Augusta National course realised a dream Dyson had first cherished, then nurtured, since he first took up the game at Malton & Norton at the age of just nine years old.

Currently Dyson lies eighth in the European rankings for selection for this year’s Ryder Cup showdown against America at Celtic Manor and he could have pursued more Ryder Cup plunder at the BMW Open in Germany this week.

But he was always going to honour his commitment to play in tomorrow’s exhibition.

Meanwhile, Malton & Norton’s most successful women’s amateur player, Emma Brown, who was originally due to play alongside Dyson, fell at the first match-play round at the British Open Amateur Championship at Ganton GC.

Brown was beaten 3 and 2 by Olivia Lansing of the USA.
