Visitors to the Jorvik Viking Centre, in York, were treated to a singing spectacular.

Pupils from Wigginton Primary School arrived on board an open-top bus to mark a school trip singalong revival.

The pupils were invited aboard the Sing Up School Singalong bus, which is touring the country to encourage children to get singing and learning about some of the UK’s most famous attractions.

The scheme has partnered heritage sites and museums, including the famous Jorvik centre, to help children learn through school trip singalongs.

Five songs, composed for Jorvik by Sharon Durant, will help pupils learn more about the attraction’s links to the Viking-age.

Some of Wigginton’s finest voices sang songs such as Viking Round and Viking Words.

After a stirring performance, the children were treated to a whistle stop tour before getting back on the bus to carry on singing.

Charlotte Bridle, head of interpretation at York Archaeological Trust, said: “The Sing Up initiative supports our aims as a trust to bring history to life and help educate young people about their history in an entertaining and engaging way.”
