A YORK dentist has experienced the level of fear some people feel before having their teeth examined – by jumping off a 200ft bungee tower.

Chris Leeson, 28, who runs Woodthorpe, Bishopthorpe and Copmanthorpe Dental Practices, raised £1,300, by leaping from a tower outside the Ainsty, in Acomb, in aid of Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

Mr Leeson said: “I was scared to death, but it has been an experience.

“It’s not natural to jump off something at 200ft.”

Chris’s patients and staff were among 600 people who crammed into the pub and car park to watch the event.

Wendi Hyde, landlady at the Ainsty, said another jumper raised £400 and 13 people jumped in total, raising more money. She said her other pubs, the Cross Keys on Tadcaster Road, York and The Grantham Arms in Boroughbridge, would also be holding bungee jumps as yesterday’s event was such a success.

“It has been a brilliant family day and people have been queuing all day today to do it.”

The Ainsty is planning more adventurous activities to attract crowds, including a rodeo bull, kangaroo boxing and sumo wrestling.
