SO THE opportunistic Lib Dems nationally have decided to throw their lot in with the right-wing Tories to put David Cameron into 10 Downing Street.
This is a neat mirror image of the position on City of York Council, where a right-wing Tory group has kept a minority, incompetent Lib Dem administration afloat, through the continuing Barbican fiasco, the failure to re-provide a city centre swimming pool, the Hungate disaster and the unnecessary re-provision of the Peasholme Centre and Ambulance Station.
Given this role reversal, the lesson clearly is that voting either Lib Dem or Tory electors get the same outcome, with one of these parties propping up the other.
Perhaps the York voters, in next year’s council elections, will bear in mind that the only way to be rid of the Lib Dem controlling group on the city council is to vote overwhelmingly for the Labour Party candidates, to ensure an effective administration of the city’s affairs, once again.
Coun Sandy Fraser, Micklegate Ward (Labour), Millfield Road, York.
