Carly Simon got snippy with Adrian Chiles on The One Show the other week. Obviously the woman has taste.

Carly was in the UK to promote Never Been Gone, a collection of much-loved songs from her archive, re-recorded in an acoustic fashion, plus two new songs. No sooner had the album been released, than it was given away free with the Mail On Sunday. Readers were probably overjoyed to hear lovingly tendered remakes of The Right Thing To Do, Coming Around Again and Simon’s signature tune, You’re So Vain.

Just as good value for money is the rather splendid 50 Greatest Hits from country legend and Broadway superstar Reba McEntire. Although a well-kept secret in the UK, McEntire’s songbook is well worth investigating, and this is a very good place to start. Listen out for Whoever’s In New England, She Thinks His Name Was John and her duet with Kelly Clarkson, Because Of You.
