NEW York City Supporters' Trust Board member Michael Oglesby is backing the JM Packaging proposal which would see the Malton-based company become the majority shareholders of the club.

"I have no hesitation in giving my 100 per cent backing to the JMP proposal," he said. "This issue is time critical with the whole future and survival of the club at stake."

He urged Trust members to read the material that has been sent out by the Trust Board ahead of the special general meeting at the Tempest Anderson Hall on Tuesday, June 6, and consider the implications of their vote.

Oglesby's public support for the JMP proposal comes just days after fellow Trust member Matthew Flint revealed he was reconsidering his position after just two weeks in the role.

Flint felt that the Trust Board had not looked deeply enough into other potential income streams for the football club and that the JMP offer which would see City managing director Jason McGill's company become 75 per cent - plus one share - majority shareholders of the Minstermen would not provide the club with enough money to secure its long-term future.

Oglesby said: "I was appointed at the same time as Matthew Flint, and was very surprised to see his comments (The Press, Thursday May 25).

"Firstly, as a member of the Supporters' Trust Board, it was explained that confidentiality was very important and any information given at meetings was private. I have supported the club all my life and want to see the club prosper and return to the Football League as soon as possible - but on a solid financial footing.

"My opinion of how the Trust Board worked, was that different opinions would be considered and discussed. Matthew has attended one meeting and has not been back, which I find hard to understand when he feels that he has areas to discuss.

"Obviously all committees are run democratically, and the majority vote carries sway. All views can be expressed and recorded in the minutes. Matthew's behaviour gives the impression that he has an ulterior motive and is not business like."

Oglesby added: "As a new member I have had a lot of catching up to do as my last involvement had been with the 'Save City' campaign, in the early days. We have all been given the facts set out before us, these have been provided to the Supporters' Trust Members in the recent communication, and we have welcomed any comments.

"The only other interest or proposition, to compare with JMP, was from Mike Grant. These were compared and while each had positives, the JMP proposition far outweighed the Grant proposal, which was insufficient to meet the funding and management requirements for the club and has subsequently been withdrawn by him anyway.

"My main concern has always been the security of the ground and this has been safeguarded within the detail of the JMP offer."

York City Supporters' Club's 85th annual meeting will be held in the Smarties family Room at KitKat Crescent next Wednesday (7.30pm) when Trust board chairman Steve Beck, will take part in a question and answer session.
