YORKSHIRE 2nds ground out Surrey 2nds at York's Clifton Park ground to win by 33 runs on the last day of their Second XI Championship match.

Yorkshire added 23 to their overnight score of 260-8 to leave Surrey a tricky victory target of 250 off 88 overs, and the visitors were not up to the task as the home bowlers shared the wickets.

At lunch, Surrey had moved steadily on to 55-1 and looked reasonably in control, but opener Arun Harinath was run out when well set on 56 and Yorkshire's bowlers began to take wickets at important stages.

Mitchell Claydon went for 65 runs off his 14 overs but claimed three good victims in the process to finish with six for the match, while Ashmal Shahzad and spin twins Richard Dawson and Mark Lawson claimed two wickets apiece and cleaned up the tail to leave mid-order dangerman Tim Murtagh alone at the crease unbeaten on 43.

Earlier, Shahzad had again proven useful with the bat when compiling an unbeaten 23 to go with his important 23 in the first innings to take the Tykes on to 283 all out.

But Lawson, who had made an unbeaten half-century at the tail-end of the first innings, became veteran Martin Bicknell's third victim of the innings - the former England paceman finishing with match figures of 6-55 - and last man Claydon was bowled by Jade Dernbach for seven.

Andrew Gale's second innings century for Yorkshire proved decisive as they overturned a first innings deficit of 34.
