I HAVE multiple sclerosis and I have made the choice to eat organic fruit and vegetables. We tend to split our shopping between the marvellous Bishopthorpe Nursery, Alligator and Tesco.

We went shopping today and as we needed a more general shop, we chose Tesco, Clifton Moor.

We realised that the organic fruit and vegetable aisle had been moved, but then we saw that all produce had been placed with the non-organic produce. This meant walking several times around the area, trying to remember what we wanted and then trying to find it in very badly-marked bins.

The worst part was that it was all placed at head height. For anyone with impaired vision or balance or who has to use a scooter or wheelchair, this is just totally unfair.

By the time that we had bought our fruit and vegetables, I was too tired to carry on and so we decided not to buy anything else. I did write my views on this change on the leaflet provided at customer services, but there wasn't really enough space to make my points.

Tesco is to be congratulated for introducing biodegradable plastic bags and for trying to source more local produce. But why make shopping more difficult for people who have disabilities?

I can see no advantages at all for anyone. Normal shoppers are just going to grab what is closest to them and the people who choose to eat organic are just going to leave the store feeling thoroughly frustrated.
