The 26 anglers who fished in the York match enjoyed some great sport on Marley Lake at the Laybourne complex.

Ray Kaye won with an excellent 63lb 4oz from peg 28. Alternating maggot and pellet across to the island, he took around 30lb of small tench and silver fish, topping up with carp to 5lb.

Carp also featured in the second-placed net of Dean Hollingworth, who used meat on island peg 52 for his net of 48lb 13oz.

Others: Phil Austin 47-4-0; John Cyrowski 42-0-0; Bob Lewis 40-0-0; Steve Newton 36-10-0

Steve Raper continues to dominate the league, but Dave Armitage did his chances no harm at all by winning this eighth round event with a walloping 129lb 7oz after drawing 33 on Gold Rush.

The old dodge of fishing in front of an empty peg again worked as his pellet offerings were eagerly snapped up by carp to 5lbs.

Second-placed Stuart Thompson had similar fish at 45 on the same pond where cat meat up in the water accounted for 82lb 4oz.

Others: Ian Walker (Boston Spa) 61-2-0; Neil Rymer (Sensas Walton) 59-2-0; John Cowgill (Elton Tackle) 57-0-0; Dave Pollitt (Hirst Tackle) 55-8-0.

At Carpvale on Sunday it was the turn of Rob Morris to take advantage of hot peg three. Fishing tight to the corner to his right he hauled in a total of 20 carp for a winning net of 80lb 12oz.

Half of his fish fell to cat meat, while the remainder were taken off the surface on floating bread.

Stan Jeffries was also on Cyprio Lake, where he managed to tempt 16 carp fishing pellet out into open water. His bag of 78lb 8oz was enough to see off Steve Sharples who took third with 74lb 2oz.

Others: Andy Gallant 69-5-0; Bernard Guy 69-0-0; Kev Gilligan 67-10-0.

Raker Lakes were in stunning form mid-week when the top three in the Wednesday evening open match all topped 100lb.

Gavin Stansfield led with a stunning three-hour catch of 135lb 11oz taken fishing pellet up in the water. The other two centurions were Nicky Dodds, with 120lb 10oz, and Trevor Cotton, who netted 110lb 10oz.

A little further a field an amazing week of bagging saw records fall at two of the North's premier commercial complexes.

Fuelled by soaring temperatures, carp went on a feeding frenzy across the region, sending the records tumbling.

The fun began on Wednesday when Andy Oldham (Maver Barnsley) smashed the open match record at Woodlands with a huge haul of 205lb 10oz from peg three on Partridge Lake. Offering meat up in the water at 15 metres, he netted carp to 8lb plus the odd chub.

His run continued on Saturday when he also topped the 71-peg open match from peg one on Skylark with a more modest haul of 112lb 4oz.

At the Oaks Mark Calvert (Cleveland Angling Centre) shattered the old record of 126lb from peg 79 on Cedar Lake. Offering caster and chopped worm up in the water he alternated long pole and a five metres line to keep the small carp coming. At the final whistle his net of 154lb 12oz set a standard that may take some beating.
