YOU report that any expansion of the University of York would mean "residents in Heslington would have access to squash and tennis facilities and there would be an all-weather pitch for various football and hockey teams to use". (Uni Gives Eastern Promise On Sport, May 2).

Well thanks, but no thanks. As one of those residents, can I suggest that most of us would prefer the 65-acre site in question to remain in the green belt.

We already have our village sports field and we've never asked for a swimming pool.

I would also suggest that the university expand its sporting facilities on a central site (maybe the teardrop site?) where all of York can take advantage of it.
