THIS year's St Leonard's Way Challenge Walk, on April 29, saw 160 people turning out to walk 20 miles on the Pennines to help St Leonard's Hospice in York.

In perfect walking weather, they followed a circuit from Haworth to Hebden Bridge and back.

They raised funds for the hospice's work, both with their entry fees and by encouraging family and friends to sponsor them.

We offer our great thanks to them, as well as to all our volunteer helpers, without whom we could not hold the event.

They supported the walkers, monitored the course, staffed checkpoints and fed everyone at the end of the day.

Special thanks are due also to Mike and Sandra Thorpe, of Mike Thorpe Windows, for their assistance, to Nestl for a generous supply of Yorkie bars to keep the walkers going, and to Colin Waltham, of Badger Hill Bakery, and his team for providing such fantastic pies at the finish.

Since the St Leonard's Way Challenge Walk was started, in 1990, more than £125,000 has been raised for the work of the hospice. We are confident that we shall have made another significant sum this year.

Thank you to everyone.
