YORK Under-12s footballers produced a superb effort to beat Leeds 1-0 on their own turf.

Attacking brilliantly down the wings with Connor Qualter and Jordan Holt, chances opened for Jacob Gore, Charlie Binns and man-of-the-match Jack Wickham.

York's breakthrough came as the impressive Aaron Hudson smashed home a half-volley. Any Leeds raids were stifled by the strong York defence and the classy George Catling in goal.

In the second half, Sam Byram made two excellent goal-saving challenges as Leeds pressed. Switching from 4-5-1 to 4-4-2, York killed the game off to topple a Leeds side, previously unbeaten this season.

York U11s were just pipped 4-3 after a scintillating show against a City Football Development outfit comprising many U12 players.

Jack Littlechild and Elliott Frodsham were at the forefront for the U11s, who took the lead through Josh Stilgoe.

The CFD side then sprung to life with three quick strikes. Undeterred, the U11s countered through Dan Wilson and Lewis Rhodes before their opponents took advantage of a defensive mix-up to bag the winner.

York's busy schedule continued with a trip to East Cleveland.

The hosts, who had knocked York out of the Yorkshire Cup, quickly raced into a 2-0 lead, that was spared being extended by 'keeper Jack Anderson's agility.

However, the second period saw York revive. Man-of-the-match Frodsham bagged two goals, the first a header, the second a thunderous left-foot shot.

York continued to press and took the lead when Paul Winterburn finished expertly. But with a minute left, indecision gifted East Cleveland a draw.

York close out their league programme at high-flying Barnsley on Saturday. Players meet at 8.30pm at McDonalds, A64.
