I'M absolutely livid that someone had the temerity to abuse Billy McEwan (Evening Press, April 18).

As an exiled York City fan, I've tried my hardest to get to as many games as I can. Reading that Billy considered walking away makes me wonder what kind of planet some of our so-called fans live on.

This is a man who has come and started the rebuilding process at our great club, and put teams on the pitch that have played, admittedly not all the time, the best, most attack-minded football we've had since the promotion season in 1992/93.

Not only that, but on a shoestring, with a bunch of young lads who have, in the main, shown pride in wearing a City shirt for the first time in years.

We need a reality check.

Like Billy says, going up this year could've been a disaster for the club. We need to keep the team together if we can and build towards winning the championship next term.

I sat next to three idiots in the Popular Stand against Kidderminster last week. They clearly had never set foot on a football pitch, as the comments they made about our players were embarrassing.

It makes you wonder whether these people want a team to support, and if they really know what the word 'support' means.

I have a message to Billy - you're doing a great job and the real fans are behind you and our team. If you left, we'd be in deep trouble.

To the morons that sadly still populate our ground - just stay away from what we're trying to build, a family club, with a good positive atmosphere where people want to come and support our team.
