It may be the end of the season for Heworth but they can ill-afford to sit back and relax at Ovenden.

The Halifax side are eyeing up a place in division one of the National Conference after a scorching year that has seen them reach the third round of the Powergen Challenge Cup, where they were knocked out by York City Knights in a bruising encounter.

And only last week they smashed the record for the highest ever home win in the division after putting 106 unanswered points past Normanton Knights with stand-off David Jones bagging a try and 20 goals for a whopping individual 44 points.

Heworth coach Jimmy Rothwell said: "It's a big game for them because they could get into the top four.

"Getting 106 is a bit scary actually - it's not very good for rugby league really, and it didn't do Normanton any favours either - so they will be on a high after that.

"We will do our best like we always do and we will see what comes out of it."

The good news is that the Villagers are up to full strength and, with re-election safely averted for the first time in three years, the pressure is off.

But Heworth would still love to cap off the season with a win.

Both York Acorn and New Earswick All Blacks were expecting to be down to the last men standing for this weekend's fixtures following last night's York and District Cup final (see report and pictures, right).

Acorn could see Kyle Palmer back for the National Conference division one visit of Castleford Lock Lane alongside a strong 'A' team contingent.

Promoted All Blacks go to Pennine League division one basement side West Bowling 'A' with Chris Judge back after a week away, while Tom Hodgson is out with a shoulder injury.

Heworth 'A' are at home to Sherburn in CMS Yorkshire League division three.
