THIS is it - the big wheel that will come to dominate the York skyline over the next three years.
This long-distance image of the 200ft Yorkshire Wheel was taken with a telephoto lens by our photographer Frank Dwyer from near Howe Hill, Acomb.
Work to erect the German-manufactured wheel in the grounds of the National Railway Museum, in Leeman Road, was completed yesterday, allowing contractors to begin attaching passenger gondolas.
But, as revealed in later editions of last night's Evening Press, plans to open it to the public on Friday had to be postponed after bad weather led to muddy conditions around the base.
The museum said: "We have decided to delay opening until after the weekend in order to complete access arrangements, and to carry out final checks."
The wheel will now open to visitors next Monday. Plans for a VIP early viewing of the attraction today have also been postponed.
