THE weekend's angling matches in the York area produced some excellent weights despite heavy rain.

Downpours added several inches of muddy water to most venues but carp continued to feed well in the teeth of a cool northerly wind.

Brian Husthwaite enjoyed a tench bonanza from peg 34 on the Carpvale match lake in the Bob-Co Spring League. Fishing with pole and chopped worm he hauled out a level 52lb of fish to 6lb for an easy win.

John Haw (Acomb Tackle) continued his good recent form with a late flurry of activity from peg 38 on the same lake to finish with 31lb 12oz of corn-tempted carp to 3lb.

Others: Andy Gallant (Bob-Co Tackle) 30-12-0, Alan Humphries (Bob-Co Tackle) and Dave Maddison (York Tackle) both 29-0-0 and Mick Green (Bob-Co Tackle) 28-1-0.

On the previous day, Stuart Wilson had taken top spot with the same weight to win the Ultimate Henglesport League at the Willows.

Switching his baits between pellet and corn, he fished at 13 metres to an overhanging willow for 25 carp. Ben Fisk took second from peg 24 on Ridgepool with 46lb 8oz. Fishing shallow with maggots at 14 metres he had better quality carp to 8lb

Others: Paul Gallagher (Willows) 43-4-0, Anthony Murray (Willows) and Steve Fearnley (Hirst Tackle) both 34-0-0, Steve Pearson (Willows) 33-0-0 and Steve Raper (Hirst Tackle) 32-4-0.

A field of 53 battled the elements on Emma and Anya lakes at the Langwith complex on Sunday with Gordon Fennell making it a good weekend for Acomb Tackle-backed anglers with an easy win from peg 12 on Anya.

Fishing tight to the island with pellets, he took carp to two pounds from start to finish. Dave Cheetham led the rest from peg 14 on the same lake where similar tactics brought him a 57lb 8oz net of carp.

Others: Roger Holmes (Langwith) 50-3-0, Kevin Little (Whitby) 44-9-0, Keith Fenwick (Langwith) 39-10-0, Ernie Clay (Langwith) and Mick Lodge (Garbolino Ossett) both 38-4-0.
