Pocklington RUFC's first half defence against the elements laid the foundation for them to come from behind to record a 12-11 derby friendly win at Goole.

Goole are currently a league above Pocklington, but they are staring Yorkshire One relegation in the face and the two sides look likely to be meeting each other in regular league fixtures next season.

Goole had first use of the strong wind that blew straight down the pitch to spend most of the first half camped in Pocklington territory.

But Pocklington's defence was both strong and well organised, and, despite Goole's pressure, they were restricted to just two penalty goals to lead 6-0 at the interval.

Pocklington were confident they could win with the elements behind them, but they conceded a bizarre try ten minutes after the break.

An ambitious Goole kick boomeranged back on the wind to land in the arms of a Goole player, who had a clear run to put his side 11-0 up.

Pocklington pulled a try back when the pack drove from a line-out and flanker Scott Littlefair sent wing Tim Drew over in the corner.

Then the Pocklington forwards launched a powerful rolling maul which ended with teenage back-row Matt Davies plunging over. Henry Mitchell drilled the ball between the posts to put his side ahead for the first time.
