I READ in the Evening Press that the contractors are doing everything possible to limit the traffic congestion and relieve the shopkeepers of Bishopthorpe Road of the financial burden they are being asked to carry.

We were told that the contractors were working from 7am to 7pm every day and were working on Saturdays and Sundays.

Has anyone told the contractors and Yorkshire Water about the published hours?

I have just been to the area at 4pm and not a workman in sight, not just today but every day. They are gone by 4pm and no sign of them at weekends.

Does nobody supervise these workmen? What are their hours? There is traffic mayhem all round them, local shops are facing financial ruin and local residents are complaining about traffic.

Are their hours really Monday to Friday to 4pm and no work at weekends?

If so, it is a disgrace that the local authorities have agreed to ordinary working hours to works that are causing so many problems. But if the hours are as published in the Press, then someone needs to get down there and make sure that they work them, to relieve the chaos that they are causing as soon as possible.
