YORK City boss Billy McEwan has told goalkeeper Chris Porter to bounce back from Saturday's costly mistake at Canvey Island.
Porter's weak punch from a Canvey corner in difficult windy conditions gifted home striker Lee Boylan a 76th-minute equaliser at Park Lane.
It was the home team's first on-target attempt of the match and cancelled out Darren Dunning's first goal of the season for City.
The mistake also meant that City failed to equal the 1964/65 club record of seven successive wins but, fortunately, few of the Minstermen's play-off rivals capitalised with Hereford United the only team in the division's top ten to taste victory.
Afterwards, McEwan had consoling words for Porter and said he even felt the 26-year-old goalkeeper could have been fouled in the incident.
He said: "The corner we conceded could have been avoided and Chris looked like he had been impeded but it's difficult to say. He's kept us in other games, it's one of those things and he's got to get over it.
"He's apologised to the rest of the players and is an honest kid who works his socks off and wants to be a professional. Another referee might have given a free kick and, on another day, Chris might have made a different decision."
