After struggling to defeat the next to bottom side at home last week, Pocklington were well beaten by the side at the foot of the table on Saturday when they lost 35-10 at Yarnbury.

Pocklington had the game's most dangerous runners in full-back and man-of-the match Nick Bennett, centre Guy Hope and wing Tim Nixon. But time after time Pocklington went in with the ball only for Yarnbury to come out with it, and most of the home scores - they got five converted tries, three of them from the touchline - came from turnovers.

The final score was harsh on Pocklington. But Yarnbury scored twice in injury time in a fashion that summed up the game - both times Pocklington looking dangerous only for Yarnbury to steal the ball and run it back for converted touchline tries.

Pocklington had actually had the early pressure for the first ten minutes before an excellent back move saw full-back Bennett carve through from 30 yards.

However, Yarnbury took the initiative and after a scrum against the head they eventually went over for a converted try to take the lead. Yarnbury continued to dominate possession but Pock's defensive discipline stood them in good stead as they held firm against sustained pressure.

Pocklington were unlucky in the last minute of the first half when good back play saw Nixon gallop over only for them to be harshly penalised for crossing. And Yarnbury took full advantage to score twice after the break from close range scrums.

Pocklington continued to make clean breaks through their incisive backs, but invariably gave away the ball in promising positions.

They did manage to pull a score back when Hope took a quick tap penalty. Nixon was stopped two yards short and fly-half Sandy Mitchell was in support to score.

But Pocklington's inability to keep possession meant they were unable to retain the initiative, and Yarnbury's two stoppage-time tries sealed Pocklington's unhappy day.
