YORKSHIRE Over-55s League indoor bowls division one champions York 'A' completed their season by beating Thornaby 85-66 on aggregate to maintain their 100 per cent winning record.

At Thornaby, Geoff Walker's rink unbeaten away record was stretched by an impressive 25-17 victory. Frank Turner's team lost their game over the last four ends going from 12-11 ahead to 17-13 down.

Both home rinks struggled to find form early but rallied. Peter Littlewood's rink trailed 13-4 at half-way but scored 15 shots on the last five ends to clinch a 27-18 win, while Peter Long's team came from 8-2 down after seven ends to win 20-14.

New Earswick ended their campaign with a disappointing 104-73 defeat to Featherstone losing all four rinks.

At home, Barry Johnson's team needed a four to draw on the last end but instead dropped a seven to lose 26-15. Bob Edwards' team also let the game slip away over the last three ends to lose 24-15.

Bob Howland's team were in contention at Featherstone, where they led 16-15 with seven ends to play but lost five to perish 26-22. Jim Bone's side won two of their last three ends, the other being tied, but left themselves too much to do and went down 28-21.

York 'B's disappointing season came to an end as they lost their sixth game and were relegated to the second division after losing all four rinks in a 94-70 defeat to North Cave.

At home, Dennis Haw's rink were ousted by one shot despite scoring a four on the last end, while an early 10-2 deficit could not be rescued by Brian Thomas' team, who lost 19-12.

At Cave, Alwyn Johnson's team scored a five on the second end and a six on the 12th, but dropped a single on the last end to lose a thriller 25-24; Tony Bryan's team lost 30-15.

Luckless Earswick quartet

LES Jackson, Dave Birch, John Blanchard and Jim Bone were unlucky in the final of the Yorkshire Fours at Hornsea, where they lost 23-21 to Ted Kilgallon's North Cave team.

Going into the last end tied at 21-21, the New Earswick team laid two shots only for Kilgallon to move the jack with his last wood and pick up two to claim the title.

York's David and John Stroughair were beaten 23-11 in the pairs final, after being 9-0 down to Featherstone's Tony Horobin and John Whiteley. Horobin had earlier toppled Ryedale's Mark Walton's team 17-14 in the triples final.

Ryedale's Stuart Bryan won a thrilling singles final countering from 15-6 down to oust Huddersfield's Michael Hick 21-20.
