SHOPPERS brace yourselves for a complete designer stub out.
McArthurGlen Designer Outlet, in York, today announced it has become one of the first shopping centres in the area to become a tobacco-free zone - a year before the government introduces a nationwide smoking ban.
The designer outlet in Fulford has imposed a no-smoking policy in its foodcourt to meet new legislation which is due to come into effect next summer. Its malls were already non-smoking areas.
The move comes after MPs voted last month to impose a complete ban on smoking in the workplace.
Colin Wilding, general manager for McArthurGlen York, said: "We've decided to implement these new rules a year before the UK ban is introduced to benefit staff and customers. We believe this is a positive step forward for the centre and one that will create a healthier and more pleasant environment for everyone."
