Huntington Rovers and Kartiers have squeezed into the final of the York FA Saturday Senior Cup.

Persistent Rovers, last season's beaten finalists, beat Bishopthorpe United 4-3 in a penalty shoot-out thanks to the heroics of goalkeeper Steve Myers, after the sides failed to produce a goal in normal and extra time.

Stephen Purdy went close for Bishops early on but Huntington responded with a good shot on the turn by Chris Johnson.

Early in the second half Lee Jackson's solo run and shot went close for Huntington before team-mate Chris Dyson missed a couple of chances.

Huntington continued to dominate and they nearly took the lead with a stunning 40-yard shot by defender Gary Mitchinson which struck the Bishopthorpe post with 'keeper Ian MacPherson stranded.

Dyson then hit the bar with an overhead kick as Huntington piled on the pressure but Bishopthorpe defended stoutly and the game went into extra time.

The deadlock could not be broken in the additional 30 minutes even when Huntington were awarded a penalty as MacPherson produced a great one-handed save. But it was his opposite number, Myers, who had the final say to send his side through to the final.

James Tweedle's 18th-minute goal was enough to beat St John's College and earn Karters their place in the final.

St John's went close with a 20-yarder which grazed the Kartiers bar, but Michael Braithwaite was denied a second Kartiers' goal by the students' goalkeeper after a fine solo run.

Andrew Woodhall and Tweedie, with an overhead scissors kick, brought the St John's 'keeper into action yet again in the second half and although the college side pressed late on Kartiers hung on to a 1-0 victory.
