BOOTHAM CC 'A' have regained the lead in division one of the NEDL York and District Table Tennis League and look likely champions.

They beat Groves WMC 'A' 9-1 with Paul Eastwood and John Wooldridge each winning three, then pipped York RI 'A' 6-4, Eastwood again being unbeaten with Graham Cook chipping in a couple of wins.

Holgate WMC 'A' and York RI 'B' ended all square with John Farmery and Graham Hatfield each winning twice for Holgate.

Coneysthorpe's Martin Lowe suffered his first defeat of the season as he went down 3-2 to Mick Willcockson, who turned on the style to win 5-11 8-11 11-7 11-4 12-10. However, Coneysthorpe went on to win the match 6-4.

York RI 'A' beat Groves WMC 'B' 9-1 thanks to three wins each for Richard Crowther and Doug Bartle and a couple from Stephen Robinson.

Division two leaders Poppleton 'A' pipped Nestl Rowntree 'A' 6-4 despite an unbeaten shift from David Lamb. Mark Hughes and Steve Ayres each won twice for Poppleton.

University 'A' crushed York RI 'C' 9-1 with Greg Price and Simon Jackson unbeaten.

Mick Wadsworth returned to action for Bootham and won all three as they defeated Holgate WMC B 7-3.

Coneysthorpe 'B' easily won the clash of the top two teams in division three as they routed Bootham CC 'C' 9-1 with Malcolm Haswell and Daniel Foxton each winning three times for Coneysthorpe.

York RI 'E' and BT 'A' finished all square as RI included a player out of grading and so gave BT three points.

BT 'B' beat the bottom team Northern Electric 6-4 with Brian Milner and Jim Stevenson each winning twice for BT.

Unbeaten Richard Collier starred as Poppleton 'D' beat Norwich Union 'A' 8-2 in division four.

Division five leaders Groves WMC 'D' whitewashed York RI 'H' and then went on to beat Sessions 'C' 6-4. Mike Belton was unbeaten in both matches.

Holgate WMC 'D' beat Shepherds 'C' 8-2 with three wins each from Colin Dickson and Steve Wands, but they struggled to draw with a strengthened York RI 'H'.

Shepherds 'C' played well to beat Nestl Rowntree 'B' 7-3 thanks to three wins from David Atkinson and two each from Alan Milner and Nigel Baker.

Shepherds 'D' and York RI 'I' fought out a 5-5 draw and three wins from Jeff Brown helped York RI 'K' to a 6-4 win over Norwich Union 'B'.
